Waiting for the post…
Snail mail certainly isn’t what it used to be! I’ve been waiting over a week for Gunter’s Vegan Cakes e-book to arrive in hard-copy in the post! This will be the beginning of a few weeks of intense editing and scrutiny on my part, before I feel that the book can actually be sold online!
Hell, I haven’t even seen the book yet! I am looking forward to having a good look through and understanding all of the recipes and how the heck you make such beautiful looking cakes as these (see the front page gallery if you don’t know what I’m talking about!), without eggs and butter!
I am not old fashioned by any means – I was vegetarian for over 20 years – and my wife for over 10 years – I say was because since we have had two children, we have found it increasingly difficult to not feed them fish or chicken – which is what we have started eating (though I must add, organic free range chicken – and I guess fish too!).
But anyway, that’s another story (and another discussion)! What I meant to say was, I am not old-fashioned, I do a lot of the cooking in our house, but I’m not so sure about baking. I think I would be happy to bake more if I didn’t have to earn a living making websites
However, much of the baking is left to my wife who enjoys pottering in the kitchen while the kids play / sleep / play / watch TV / scream / play / sleep!
So I asked my wife, “Sally, what do you think about vegan baking using no eggs, milk or butter?” her reply was this “well, why not, I’m sure it’s possible if you know how and what to use.” A good answer I thought….. “if you know how”.
So it was with great interest that I began this project with Gunter. Not only did I want to deliver a fantastic website to him, one that is capable of perhaps changing his life but also because I was (secretly) fascinated by his recipes. “Great”, I thought “I get to see the recipes before they’re published”!
WRONG!
Well, so far anyway! Gunter sent my his e-book on a USB drive 2 weeks ago. The distance is exactly 2153.61KMs (not a bad guess) according to various Google search results.
On the Australia Post website, it says that “small packets and parcels can take up to 5 – 7 business days to reach their NZ destination”.
That’s about 2153.61KMs divided by 7 days = 307.65 Kms per day. Hmm, ok, maybe it is faster than I can walk BUT it’s been 14 days now, so let’s recalculate this: 2153.61 / 14 = 153.82 KMs per day!
Great Scott! I could cycle over and pick it up using that new bridge they’ve just built – you know, the one that connects Australia and New Zealand – err, or was it a tunnel? Whatever it is, surely Google will give me the answer!
Oh, ok, maybe I’ll wait. Didn’t realise I’d have to swim it. The book would get ruined.
Where’s my e-book Australia Post?
And then I realised something monumental!
HAY, I thought……..
(……wait for it…….)
I’ll just download it from Gunter’s website!
Doh!
